Celebrating British Tomato Week

Founded in 1997, The Tomato Growers’ Association champions British tomato growers and highlights the work that goes in to delivering great tasting British tomatoes to your plate.

Officially, British tomato events will begin on Monday 21st May and to mark this occasion, George has shared a fantastic summer recipe, which showcases the best of British heirloom tomatoes.


Heirloom Tomato, Watermelon & Feta Cheese

Serves 4

Ingredients:

  • ½ water melon, diced and deseeded

  • 120g feta cheese, diced

  • 4 heirloom tomatoes, neatly quartered

  • 1 tbsp toasted pumpkin seeds

  • 1 tsp shredded mint leaves

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

  • 1 tbsp honey (runny)

  • 2 tbsp white wine vinegar

  • 1 heaped tsp finely chopped shallots

  • 2 Tbsp walnut oil

  • 2 tbsp olive oil

  • salt, mill pepper

Method:

Make a dressing by whisking together the lemon, honey, white wine vinegar and the oils, season with salt and mill pepper to taste.  Last minute with the dressing toss Tomatoes, Feta, watermelon, shallots and mint all together in a bowl. Serve immediately.
